COMECE sent a letter of support to the UCCRO and all Ukrainian people

The Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) has sent a letter to the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations. In this letter, COMECE expresses its sympathy and support for the Ukrainian people in their struggle for independence. They also assure their prayers for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

Below is the full text of the appeal:

То the esteemed representatives and members of the Ukrainian Council of Clhurches and Religious Organisations Brussels, 2 December 2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On behalf of the Commission of the Bishops Conferences of the European Union (СОМЕСЕ), І wish to express our continued heartfelt solidarity and closeness to the members of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations, as well as to all the suffering people of Ukraine. This spirit of compassion and support for the martyred Ukraine and its people was deeply felt during the prayers and discussions held at the recently celebrated Autumn Plenary Assembly of СОМЕСЕ.

Now, for more than 1000 days, as а result of Russia's full-scale military aggression, you have been enduring immense trials and great suffering. The scale of destruction has been overwhelming, forcing millions of people from their homes, and claiming too many lives - both civilians and defenders of your homeland. The scars of this conflict, the pain, and the devastation are deeply felt not only across every corner of your land, but also beyond its borders, regardless of faith or confession.

In these difficult and uncertain times, especially as winter sets in and the geopolitical landscape remains fraught with instability, we wish to assure you that EU Bishops remain united in prayer for the people of Ukraine and fш а just and lasting реасе. Amidst the cold and fear that many of ош· brothers and sisters are currently experiencing, we pray that no one may feel abandoned. Мау all those who suffer from the consequences of the war, find warmth, shelter and welcome. We equally pray for those bearing political responsibility in Europe and in the world, that their decisions may Ье guided Ьу the virtues of wisdom, integrity and discernment in the service of justice and реасе.

For Christians, the approaching Feast of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, offers а light of hope. In these times of darkness, we wish to share with all the suffering people of Ukraine the message of the 'Prince of Реасе', which transcends all bounderies, and invites us to embrace solidarity and human fraternity in our hearts and our deeds.

Fraternally yours,

President of СОМЕСЕ
