
On February 27, 2025, representatives of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) met with Bishop Jerzy Samiec of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in the Republic of Poland. Bishop Samiec visited Ukraine at the invitation of Bishop Pavlo Schwarz of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine. The meeting took place at St. Catherine’s Lutheran Church in Kyiv.
During the meeting, UCCRO representatives shared insights into Ukraine’s experience of interfaith cooperation, the state of religious freedom, and the social and humanitarian activities of churches during the war. They also highlighted instances of religious persecution in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and expressed gratitude for the prayers and assistance provided by Polish churches. In turn, Bishop Samiec spoke about the Ecumenical Council of Poland, cooperation with the Catholic Church in Poland, and the dialogue between Polish religious denominations and the government in addressing pressing issues.
In the context of the upcoming visit of a delegation of Ukrainian religious leaders to Poland, both sides discussed various organizational aspects of the visit and the scheduled meetings.
Participants of the meeting on behalf of the UCCRO included representatives of the All-Ukrainian Union of Evangelical Christian-Baptist Churches, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church, the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and the Institute for Religious Freedom.
